Republicans retain Senate seat, win House seat and lieutenant governor’s office

Republican incumbent David Vitter has beaten Democrat Charlie Melancon to retain his Senate seat. Vitter garnered 57 percent of the vote to Melancon’s 37 percent. There were 10 other candidates in the race, but none received more than 1 percent of the vote.
Another Republican, Jeff Landry, defeated Democratic challenger Ravi Sangisetty for the District 3 Congressional seat vacated by Melancon. Landry received 64 percent of the vote to Sangisetty’s 36 percent.
Finally, Republican Jay Dardenne will be Louisiana’s next lieutenant governor after he defeated challenger Caroline Fayard 58 percent to 42 percent.
There were also 10 constitutional amendments up for vote today, and all were approved with the exception of amendments four and seven.
