Alcide J. “A.J.” Martin, 74, a retired carpenter, lost his battle with lung cancer Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010, at 9 a.m. at his home in LaPlace.

H was the husband of Jean Edler Martin for 57 years; father of Romona Middlebrook, Jody Becnel and Craig and Eric Martin; father-in-law of Wayne Middlebrook and Glenn J. Becnel; grandfather of Hayden and Wesley Middlebrook, Donavon, Dustin and Layla Becnel and Cory Martin; and great-grandfather to Chandler, Rachel, Nicolas, Cassidy and Kieley Middlebrook, Caden Millet, Jake and Gracie Becnel and Joey and Patrick Brue.

He was the last of 10 children to Ada Bourg and Alcide Martin Sr. of Napoleonville.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Campbell, Pat, Melvin and Ira Martin; sisters, Vivian, Evelyn and Pansy Bourgeois, Cecile Miranda and Myrtle Nuber.

The family offers pecial thanks to St. Catherine’s Hospice for all the support and help, especially to Alaina, Shantel, Erika, Terry and Shandelyn; also to Jeff at Acadian Medical Supply.

Visitation was held at Millet-Guidry Funeral Home in Reserve on Monday, Sept. 20.
