LAPLACE — St. Charles is still in search of its first victory of the season after falling at Ponchatoula on Thursday, 16-25, 20-25, 23-25.

Nicole Doming, Chelsea Loupe and Heather Orillion each had five kills to lead the Comets. Peyton Millet and Cori Millet each tallied three aces, while Peyton Millet added 18 digs. Loupe had five blocks and Megan Ruiz logged 18 assists.

It was the first action in just over a week for SCC, as it dropped a match on the Thursday prior to Ecole Classique in three close games, 24-26, 23-25, 21-25.

“We started off kind of slow. We were down 7-0 to open the first game,” said St. Charles coach Kelly Cupit. “I think in the end, we may have been a little tired. It was our third match in three days.

“But we will see them again. That will be a good rematch for us.”

SCC is to face Ecole Classique again on September 23.

Peyton Millet finished with 19 digs. Nicole Doming led the Comets in blocks with four, while Heather Orillion and Loupe each added four kills. Ruiz assisted nine kills.

Cupit said that while the team is off to a slow start, things are looking up.

Her team so far has been comprised of mostly first year starters, and by next week she expects to have almost an entirely healthy roster — this has not been the case through the first two weeks of the season.

“We’ve only got one girl that’s still out, and she should be back very soon. We should have our first game with a full roster since the summer,” said Cupit.

Cupit said she hopes to see more progress this weekend at the Loyola tournament. Play began yesterday and continues through today.
