LAPLACE –St. John the Baptist Parish authorities are looking for suspects in connection with a Saturday night shooting in LaPlace in which a 25-year-old man was shot in the back.

Capt. Dane Clement, public information officer for the St. John Sheriff’s Office, said deputies were called out to the 600 block of Revere Drive around 7:25 p.m. Saturday after receiving reports a man was firing a gun. Clement said 911 dispatchers told deputies the alleged gunman was wearing a black T-shirt with gold lettering on the back.

Minutes after that initial call, a victim of a gunshot wound to the upper back arrived at the River Parishes Hospital emergency room, Clement said. The victim told authorities he was involved in a verbal altercation with someone and was shot in the back by another man who fit the description of the alleged shooter.

Clement said the victim, who was later transferred to University Hospital in New Orleans, was alert and conscious while talking with deputies. He remains in the hospital as of Monday evening, Clement said.

Anyone with information regarding this incident should call St. John Sheriff’s Detective Scott Guillory at 985-359-8769 or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
