Annual Veterans Luncheon Friday

Sometimes I feel like we over do it when honoring some groups or individuals. One group I never get tired of honoring is the veterans of the United States Armed Services. This Friday, July 2, Parish President Natalie Robottom and the St. John the Baptist Parish Council will honor all veterans and their spouses at the annual Veterans Luncheon.

The activities will begin at 11 a.m. at St. Peter School in Reserve. Lane Carson, secretary of the Louisiana Department of Veteran Affairs, will be the guest speaker. It promises to be an exciting time as we begin the celebration of our country’s birthday.

There is an old saying that honor should be given to those that honor is due. I can think of no group more deserving to be honored. I am looking forward to being there to honor some of the men and women responsible for America’s freedom.

Friday evening the administration will also sponsor the annual fireworks display on the river in Reserve and Edgard.

This weekend as we get together with family and friends, let’s not forget to thank Almighty God for all the blessings He has bestowed on us. One nation, under God, with liberty and justice for all.
