Open yourself to God and you will receive

I’ve heard many good testimonies in churches about the power of God. I’ve also heard many out of church that reinforce my belief that God answers prayers. One such incident took place a few weeks ago at the Sandwich World in Lutcher.

After an early morning Bible sharing group, Neil Poche and I were having coffee. The subject turned to our families, and he said that he had two children, a 12-year-old son and an 8-year-old daughter. I asked him his age. “I’m 47,” he smilingly said.

He then shared that a few weeks ago he was at a retail store with his daughter and someone asked if she was his granddaughter. “No, that’s my daughter,” he answered. Neil has a little premature gray hair.

He proceeded to tell me that he and his wife, Wendy, always wanted children, but after 13 years and four miscarriages, they were discouraged. He then read the following scripture in the Bible: “Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.” Mark 11: 24

“I stood on God’s Word, and He delivered as His Word promises,” he said. “When did you get saved?” I asked. “When Coach Frank Monica took me to a FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) camp in North Carolina.”

As our conversation continued, Neil shared, “After our son was born, we wanted another child. After two more miscarriages, we had accepted the possibility, with grateful hearts, that maybe God would limit us to one child. We talked seriously about adopting, but God not only is faithful, but He also gives us the desires of our heart, and we were blessed with a little girl.”

As I write this article on Father’s Day, I know one father who deserves to be honored. The Poches are a testimony that God answers the prayers of the faithful.
