DESTREHAN –St. Charles Parish authorities responding to reports of shots fired at a Destrehan home arrested a man wanted since August on kidnapping and auto theft charges, according to a release from the Sheriff’s Office.
Clinton L. Brown, 40, of 251 Meadows Drive, Destrehan, was arrested just before 1 a.m. Monday after firing gunshots inside his home, said Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange, a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office. LaGrange said Brown’s stepdaughter was inside the house but was not injured in the shooting.
“The suspect had become angry for some unknown reason and decided he was going to fire his weapon,” LaGrange said.
Lagrange said Brown had been wanted on two warrants for simple kidnapping, auto theft, simple battery and criminal damage in connection with an incident in August involving his live-in girlfriend.
According to a report from police, Brown allegedly broke a window on his live-in girlfriend’s vehicle, forced the woman into the vehicle and struck her several times in the face. He then drove the victim around in the car for about three hours before returning to the home, where he ordered the victim to take a shower.
The report said while the victim was in the shower, Brown fled the home in the victim’s vehicle.
“We’re glad to have him off the streets,” LaGrange said. “He is a person who has created numerous problems in the community, and we are glad to get him before he was given the chance to cause any more harm.”
In addition to the previous warrants, Brown was booked with illegal use of weapons, illegal carrying of weapons, battery on a police officer and two counts of resisting an officer. He is being held at the Nelson Coleman Correctional Facility in Killona.
