LAPLACE — Riverlands rolled to victory on Monday night, toppling visiting Ellington at home by a score of 432-97.
The Stingrays (1-2) were ahead 157-58 after the first two events and coasted from there. Riverlands went a perfect eight-for-eight in medley relay events.
“Our kids didn’t take this lightly at all,” said Riverlands coach Lindsey Eichhorn. “Ellington came in and competed hard. But to come out and get a win definitely boosted morale.”
Riverlands’ Alex Creel, Grace Richoux, Jack Chapman, Anna Guidry each went three-for-three in winning their respective individual events.
Merryn Guidry, Alex Zenicki, Elise Loisel, Evan Richoux, Jacob Palmature and Emma Dooley each took two first place finishes for the Stingrays
Laura Hane, Brett Landry, Dylan Klibert, Stevie Noyes, Cameron Torres, Daniel Jaubert, Elizabeth Prince, Lindsey Noyes, Robby Dale, Raigen Cosse, and Cade Prejean rounded out first place winners for Riverlands.
Eichhorn said that establishing a win was important after the season started with meets against LARAYO and Hill Heights, two perennial powers.
“(Assistant coach) Cody (Chaupetta) and I come in as two new coaches this year. We know they loved coach Carla (Lambert) and coach Mary (Gurley). It’s good to see our kids really bonding as a team now, though. We’re really proud of them.”
Eichhorn also praised the work of her 15 to 18 year old age group, which captured most top three placements in their events.
But she also pointed out the work they’ve done leading up to the meets.
“They come in early and work with the new swimmers, teaching them new strokes and what to do when the meet comes,” said Eichhorn. “I’m really impressed at their dedication.”
