Authorities investigating recent LaPlace shooting

LAPLACE –St. John the Baptist Parish authorities are investigating a shooting in LaPlace Tuesday morning that left a left a 48-year-old woman injured, according to a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office.

Capt. Dane Clement, public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office, said deputies responded to a 911 call around 3:15 a.m. from a residence in the 1900 block of Cambridge Drive.

When deputies arrived they found the victim with a gunshot wound on her right leg above the knee.

The woman was transported to River Parishes Hospital and later transferred to a hospital in New Orleans. Her condition is not known, but Clement said her injuries were not life threatening.

According to a release from the Sheriff’s Office, the woman, who lives on Meeker Loop, was visiting a friend at the Cambridge Drive residence prior to the shooting. The friend, an unidentified male, told deputies the victim left for a moment but came back minutes later with the gunshot wound, according to the release. Clement said detectives have not been able to interview the victim because she is still receiving treatment. He said the investigation is in the early stages, and there are no suspects and no motive for the shooting at this time.
