GARYVILLE – A Paulina man was killed and three others were injured following an early morning shooting in Garyville Sunday, according to a release from the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Darron Russell, 42, was pronounced dead at St. James Parish Hospital in Lutcher at 4:25 a.m. Sunday after suffering multiple gunshot wounds to his arm and lower abdomen, said Capt. Dane Clement, public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office.

A 38-year-old Paulina man, a 30-year-old Garyville woman and an 18-year-old Garyville man were also wounded in the shooting, which occurred at the intersection of Daisy and South Fig streets in Garyville, Clement said. Their names were not released.

According to a Sheriff’s Office report, detectives believe Russell, the 38-year-old man and the female were traveling south on Daisy Street in Russell’s white Ford Explorer when an unidentified person fired several shots into the vehicle while it was stopped at the intersection. The gunfire wounded all three in the vehicle and also struck the 18-year-old, who was a bystander near the intersection, Clement said.

After leaving the scene of the shooting the female got out of the SUV and walked to a residence on Garyville Northern Street, where someone called 911 around 4:45 a.m., according to the report.

Clement said the 38-year-old man drove himself and Russell to St. James Parish Hospital in Russell’s Explorer. He said the 38-year-old was treated for a wound to the wrist and released after hospital authorities contacted St. John deputies.

The female was transported by ambulance to St. James Parish Hospital with gunshot wounds to the head and legs, Clement said. She was released from the hospital late Monday night.

The 18-year-old walked into River Parishes Hospital in LaPlace with a gunshot wound to his left hand, the report stated.

He was later transferred to LSU Interim Hospital in New Orleans, where he was treated and released Monday.

Clement said detectives have no motive or suspect in connection with the shooting and are in the initial stage of the investigation.

He said Russell’s death is the parish’s third homicide of the year.
