LAPLACE – St. John Parish authorities are investigating an aggravated burglary at an Edgard home Wednesday night, according to a spokesman for the St. John Sheriff’s Office.

Capt. Dane Clement, public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office, said a tall man armed with a knife and wearing a ski mask entered a home in the 2000 block of River Road around 11:25 p.m. Wednesday. Clement said the intruder got into the home through an open garage door.

According to a report from the Sheriff’s Office, the suspect walked through a utility room and headed toward a bedroom, where the 84-year-old homeowner was watching television. Clement said the victim’s 80-year-old wife was also present in the home, but in another room.

“The suspect approached the homeowner in the bedroom and asked for his money,” Clement said. “The intruder removed a small amount of cash from the victim’s wallet and left the home without taking anything else. No one was injured in the incident.”

Clement said the intruder fled the area on foot. He said deputies canvassed the area looking for the suspect but were unsuccessful.

Anyone with information regarding the burglary should call St. John detectives at 985-359-8769 or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
