LAPLACE – St. Charles’ Robbie Eichhorn is off to play at the next level.

The St. Charles senior recently signed his letter of intent to play at Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Ala., where he will continue his education and play baseball beginning in the 2010-11 year.

Huntingdon College is a Division III, four-year college that competes in the Great South Athletic Conference.

Eichhorn will play catcher and looks to study business while at Huntington.

He said that a visit to the campus over his Christmas break helped ease along the decision.

“It’s a beautiful campus,” said Eichhorn. “I’m really looking forward to meeting some new people and enjoying a different experience.”

He also noted hat he looks forward to competing for a starting job.

“If you’re willing to put in the time and work hard, I think you’ll be ok there,” said Eichhorn. “And that’s what I’m about, working hard.”

SCC coach Paul Waguespack said that while Eichhorn’s playing time at St. Charles wasn’t always plentiful, the Hawks are making a positive addition to their team.

“I’m real happy for him. I know he loves the game,” said Waguespack. “He was the ultimate team player for us, never complained about anything I wish him well and I hope he has a wonderful career at the next level.”

As for his goals at Huntingdon, at the top of the list is adding an accessory or two.

“I’d really like to get a ring,” said Eichhorn. “We came real close to doing it here at St. Charles.”
