CONVENT – A Convent man was killed Saturday morning when he was ejected from his vehicle after a one-car accident in St. James Parish, according to a release from State Police.
Lyle C. Benn, 50, was driving west on Louisiana Highway 3214 in a 1998 Ford Explorer just before 5 a.m. Saturday when he failed to stop at a “T-shaped” intersection at River Road, according to the release from Troop A.
State Police investigators said Benn’s vehicle hit the levee and rolled several times before coming to rest.
The release said Benn, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, was ejected from the vehicle.
He died as a result of his injuries.
A passenger in the Explorer, Nathan McKinley, 57, of Convent, was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and suffered “minor to moderate injuries,” according to the release.
He was transported by ambulance to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge for treatment.
