Katie Pintado and Alexa Romero of Harry Hurst Middle School were accepted into the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts for the 2010-2011 school year.
They will start their day at Destrehan High School with general classes then travel to NOCCA for classes in their specific areas of concentration.
Romero was one of only 10 new students accepted in the Vocal Department. This department is highly competitive and very selective.
She will study privately and take Master Classes with classical singers when they come to New Orleans to perform with groups such as the Opera Chorus and LPO.
She already studies privately with Denise Sharp at the Louisiana Academy for Performing Arts. She studies piano with Jennifer Eastland.
She will be performing in River Region’s “The King and I” this summer.
Pintado will be in the Musical Theatre Department, where she will study the three disciplines that make up Musical Theatre: acting, singing and dancing.
Along with performing, the Musical Theatre students must learn the technical side of theatre such as lighting, sound, costuming, building sets and running the box office. Pintado currently takes dance classes at Labourdette School of Dance. This summer she will be performing with Community Schools Heading for Broadway Program outside New York City.
