HAMMOND – St. Charles will be bringing its team to the Class 2A state golf tournament after finishing third at the Region III golf tournament at Oak Knoll Country Club on Monday.

St. Charles scored 354 points, trailing tournament champion St. Thomas Aquinas (346) and Newman (350).

“The good news is, we go to Alexandria as a team,” said St. Charles coach Gary Zeringue. “We have a couple of goals each year, and number one is always to make it to the tournament.”

SCC’s Lance Perrilloux finished third at the event, shooting an 82, trailing only St. Thomas Aquinas players Connor Taylor (79) and Grady Brame, Jr. (80).

“Lance is that one guy on my team who plays endlessly,” said Zeringue. “He’s used to tournament competition because he competes in them so much. These tournaments come so naturally to him.”

Zeringue says Perrilloux, a sophomore, has a world of potential.

“He improved tremendously in the past year. If he keeps getting better, he has a chance to play at the next level,” said Zeringue.

Perrilloux played at the state tournament in team play a year ago, but this is his first time playing as a medalist.

“I’m glad he had the opportunity to play last season. You can’t simulate the state tournament in practice,” said Zeringue.

Riverside’s Brett Lamonte also qualified for the state tournament, as the senior shot 85 to finish in a tie for fourth overall with Jake Pritchard of Pine.

“He’s anxious to get back up there,” said Riverside coach Roy Aubert.

“He hasn’t been there since his freshman season, when we won the regional. He finished three shots out (of qualifying) last year. But I know he was very excited.”

The Comets will well represented among medalists — the top 18 earn those honors and qualify for state automatically. Ryan St. Pierre finished in a tie for sixth, shooting 86. Matt Autin placed in a tie for 10th, shooting 88. Jesse Coleman placed as the 18th and final medalist, shooting 98.

Austin Glidden was the second lowest scorer for RA, shooting 102.

The Rebels shot 405 as a team to place sixth.

The LHSAA Class 2A state golf tournament will take place at Oak Wing in Alexandria on Monday and Tuesday.
