SCC 7, STERLINGTON 3

SCC survived a shaky start to advance to the state semifinals for the third time in Coach Ty Monica’s four years at the school.

The Comet scored four runs in the top of the eighth inning, a big inning sparked by Courtney Western’s two run double. Candace McGaff and Jaymie Remondet got the inning started by notching a pair of base hits.

Megan Louque got the victory, pitching seven scoreless innings after allowing three in the first. It is the junior’s first career start and win in Sulphur.

EVANGEL 2, RIVERSIDE 0

Thanks to Emily Rousseau’s one-hitter and some exceptional defense in the late innings, Evangel emerged with a 2-0 win over Riverside today in the Class 2A state quarterfinals.

Evangel scratched out runs in the second and fifth innings.

Riverside started to stir in the sixth inning when Aimee Williamson walked to break up a perfect game, and Taylor Terrio slapped a base hit down the left side.

But Rousseau escaped. A key double play in the seventh after Katie Bailey led off with a walk all but ended the Rebels’ chances.
