CROWLEY — In a rematch of last year’s Class 3A semifinal, St. Charles overcame Notre Dame yet again to emerge with a 3-1 victory.

The Comets topped the Pioneers last season in its last at bat on an Alex Marse RBI single to advance to the state championship game.

It was also a battle of teams challenging for the top seed in their respective classifications. Notre Dame remains in Class 3A and sits at No. 2 in the power rankings. The Comets have moved back to Class 2A and are the top team in power ranking. Playoff matchups are scheduled to be released today.

The Comets survived some shaky play in the field, winning despite committing seven errors.

Comets starter Henri Faucheux earned the win, allowing four hits in a complete game effort. He walked one and struck out two.

Notre Dame struck first, scoring a run in the fourth inning to go ahead 1-0.

Matt Bonnecarre tied the game with an RBI single in the fifth.

SCC made another move in the sixth, after Brandon Becker led off with a single. Grant Authement bunted him over and Nick Reine walked. Becker advanced to third on a passed ball, then scored on a double steal when Notre Dame threw to second base.

The Comets collected an insurance run in the seventh on Becker’s RBI single. Becker collected two of SCC’s four hits.

The Comets added a 12-1 win over South Lafourche on Monday to conclude their regular season.

SCC finished with 17 wins in its last 18 games.
