LAPLACE – Rummel got to St. Charles starter Marc Picciola early, but he’d quickly put an end to that.
After allowing two first inning runs, Picciola silenced the Raider bats the rest of the way, leading the Comets to a 6-2 win.
SCC is 14-1 in its last 15 games.
Picciola (4-2) allowed six hits and one earned run. He struck out five and walked a batter.
“He looked like the Picciola of old,” said St. Charles coach Paul Waguespack. “Marc’s been a little snake bitten. We haven’t played great defense behind him, but against Rummel we did.”
The Raiders (18-12) led 2-0 after an inning on Jason Sinabaldi’s two-run double, which followed a single and a Comet error.
But SCC (25-5) would score two on a throwing error into the outfield off of a Donnie Savoie grounder to the mound.
Shane McNeil would put SCC ahead 3-2 in the fourth when he scored after a stolen base and two passed balls.
Another Rummel wild pitch in the fifth plated Chris Millet to make it 4-2.
Then Grant Auth ement landed the big blow, a two-run homer to left to make it 6-2.
“We’re ecstatic at being 25-5. But we’re not satisfied,” said Waguespack.
