GONZALES – Ascension Community Theatre’s Second Stage recently announced their upcoming Children’s Summer Workshop. The workshop runs for five days, Monday, June 7, through Friday, June 11, 8 a.m. to noon with a presentation of five 10-minute productions written and performed by the participants on Friday, June 11, at noon.

Jes Hawley, the talented theatre teacher for Ascension Parish, will be directing the workshop. Jes holds a BA in Performance Theatre from LSU and has been involved in many productions both onstage and backstage, at LSU, ACT and other area theatre groups.

In a nurturing environment of support and encouragement, offering a unique experience for children to be involved with the creation of an original 10-minute one-act play. Participants will be divided into five groups, each with an adult facilitator acting as their Theatre Guide. As well as being exposed to all aspects of Stagecraft, each group will write, direct and perform their very own one-act play. This process offers each child the opportunity to discover what it truly means to create theatre and experience a different, creative way of putting their thoughts and feelings into a product that they can be proud to call their own. In a collaborative effort, where each participant will be encouraged to work with and support their teammates, the workshop will engender self-confidence, cooperation and will help each child find a new way of expressing themselves.

Enrollment is limited to 40 participants and registration will conclude on April 30. Enrollment is not guaranteed unless you get a confirmation. The enrollement fee is $40 per child ($20 per additional sibling).
