LAPLACE – A Houston man was identified Tuesday afternoon as the victim in a fatal one-car crash on Interstate 10 in St. John Parish Saturday, according to a release from State Police.

Jackson Murray, 22, was the only passenger of a 2003 Toyota Camry that veered off the interstate and into a tree before bursting into flames around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, said Trooper Melissa Matey, a spokeswoman for State Police Troop B.

According to a report from State Police, the vehicle was speeding eastbound in the left lane when it suddenly veered off the roadway into the westbound lanes before coming to a stop in the trees near milepost 200. Matey said the vehicle caught fire on impact.

Murray was pronounced dead at the crash scene, Matey said. She said speed was a factor in the crash and toxicology results are pending the autopsy.
