More than 360 golfers from St. John Parish teed off Friday afternoon at Belle Terre Country Club in LaPlace for Sheriff Wayne Jones’ 15th Annual Golf Tournament and Fundraiser. “We were concerned about turnout this year due to the rough economic situation,” Jones said. “I am certainly very pleased that so many people came out in support again this year.” In addition to the golf tournament Friday afternoon, Jones said he also held social that evening at the Belle Terre Clubhouse, which attracted about 800 people from the area. Jones said the proceeds from the event, which usually averages about $90,000 before expenses are factored in, go toward his campaign fund with an additional amount left over for a community donation. Jones said Friday he plans to donate about $1,000 to LaPlace Boy Scout troops. Golfers who came out Friday were treated to a wide range of food from various St. John area restaurants.
