MANDEVILLE – An early morning crash on Interstate 12 in Tangipahoa Parish Monday claimed the life of a LaPlace man, according to a release from Louisiana State Police Troop L.

Tray A. Keys, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred just before 4 a.m. near milepost 52.2 on I-12 between Robert and Goodbee, said Trooper First Class Nick Manale, spokesman for Troop L.

According to a report on the crash, Keys was traveling eastbound in the left lane in a 2003 Chevrolet Trail Blazer when he suddenly swerved hard to the right for unknown reasons. Keys’ vehicle rotated clockwise and traveled off the roadway. The vehicle overturned and rolled over several times before crashing into a tree.

Police say Keys was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. A passerby called 911, and authorities pronounced him dead shortly after arrival.

Manale said investigators do not know if Keys was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. He said a toxicology examination from the State Police Crime Lab is pending.
