LAPLACE – A LaPlace man accused of molesting his fiance’s 10-year-old daughter was arrested Tuesday afternoon, according to a release from the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The 58-year-old was picked up just after noon Tuesday at his home after St. John detectives obtained a warrant for his arrest, said Capt. Dane Clement, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman. Clement said the warrant stems from a complaint filed by the girl’s mother Saturday evening. The mother and daughter live with the suspect.

The mother told police she awoke early Friday and noticed her fiance was not in bed. When she got up to check on him, she found him in her daughter’s room standing next to her bed touching her inappropriately.

The man, not identified by the newspaper to protect the identity of the child, was booked into the Sherman Walker Correctional Facility in LaPlace around 3 p.m. and was being held in lieu of a pre-set $200,000 bond.
