BATON ROUGE – East St. John’s 4×2 relay team took first place at last week’s Woodlawn track and field meet, representing one of a number of events the Wildcats placed within the top three finishers.

Quinton Johnson, DeChris Strong, Alonzo Martin and Richard Miles comprised the winning squad, recording a time of 1:31.81.

“We’re looking for our relay teams in the 4×2, 4×1 and 4×4 to be better than ever,” said East St. John coach Eleno Rodriguez, who is in his fifth year as ESJ track and field coach. “And really, this is the best overall team I’ve had since I’ve been here.”

The 4×4 team (Leonard Davis, Martin, Brandon Mitchell and Kashawn Campbell) finished second, posting a time of 3:53.00.

Baishawn Pratt took second place in the 800-meter dash (2:04) and third in the 1600 (5:04).

Kadeem Vance finished second in the 110-meter hurdles (17.0), while Mitchell took second in the 400 (53.50). Campbell captured third in the 400 (54.0).

“I was very happy with our performance,” said Rodriguez. “I see us only getting better.”
