LAPLACE – A LaPlace man was killed Thursday after he lost control of his motorcycle and struck a sport utility vehicle on River Road in LaPlace, according to a release from State Police.

David A. Dill III, 58, was traveling east on River Road around 4 p.m. when he suddenly lost control of his 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle, said State Police spokesperson Trooper Melissa Matey.

Matey said Dill crossed the double center lines of the two-lane roadway and crashed into a 2001 Ford Explorer heading west on River Road near McReine Road.

The release said Dill, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene just after the crash. Matey said speed and alcohol were not being considered as factors in the crash.

A portion of River Road, between McReine Road and Bayou Steel Road, was shut down for more than two hours while troopers investigated the accident.
