Lockport couple charged in hit-and-run

HAHNVILLE – A Lockport couple was arrested Saturday after they confessed to hitting a Paradis man while driving on U.S. Highway 90 in Des Allemands early Friday morning, according to a release from Louisiana State Police.

Jennifer Theriot, 28, and William Theriot, 30, both of 132 Waguespack St., Lockport, were booked into the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center around 8 p.m. Saturday after they told authorities they hit a man who was walking in the middle of U.S. Highway 90 near Louisiana Highway 632, said Trooper Melissa Matey, a State Police spokeswoman.

Matey said troopers found the victim, identified as 28-year-old Chad Gaubert, on the side of the road near milepost 235 around 2:30 a.m. New Year’s Day. She said Gaubert was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the release, Jennifer Theriot told authorities she was traveling eastbound on U.S. 90 in a Jeep Wrangler when she hit the man. She said she and William Theriot got out of the vehicle and saw the body in the street. The two then left the scene without reporting the incident or offering any help to the victim.

According to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, Jennifer Theriot was booked with felony hit and run – fatality, while William Theriot was booked with accessory after the fact to a felony hit and run.
