On the big night fun and safety go hand-in-hand

It’s a big night for children of all ages in the River Parishes. Some of you may be attending the LSU-Tulane football game, some may be at a fall festival and others will be at a Halloween party.
And many local children will get dressed up in costume, ready for a night of door to door trick or treating.
Parents, keep a close eye on your children. Motorists, drive very slow on streets where children are out. Children, do not dart in between cars, and do not walk around your neighborhoods alone.
Sheriff’s deputies in each parish will be out in force tonight, but with so many events going on, they’ll be busy.
And Louisiana State Police officers will be helping, too.
The State Police are urging parents to keep a close eye on their children and know where they are at all times. They are urging children to be cautious of strangers, stay in areas that are well lit and that they are familiar with and stop only at houses with a front porch light on.
Parents, the State Police urge you to visit their Web site at www.LSP.org, click on Sex Offender Registry link and see if any predators are living in the area you will be with your children trick or treating.
While Halloween is all about fun for children, it’s all about safety, too. So take the necessary precautions before hitting the streets.
Have a fun, and safe, Halloween, our friends.
