The “big three” of East St. John was on full display Friday night in LaPlace.

Kalen Henderson threw four touchdown passes – all to favorite target D’haquille Williams – and Reynaldo Young rushed for two more scores as the Wildcats throttled rival Destrehan, 41-9, in a District 6-5A game.

East St. John’s (7-1, 3-0) win allowed it to keep pace with Hahnville, which remained undefeated in district itself with a win over Dutchtown.

The Wildcats just punted once all night, and scored on four of its five first half drives.

Most impressive may have been the play of Williams, who terrorized Destrehan all over the field – he was utilized on reverses, as quarterback of the Wildcat formation, on returns, and as a receiver.

Twice in the second quarter, Williams took the air out of Destrehan’s sails with spectacular touchdown receptions. The first came on a third-and-25 with 51 seconds left in the first quarter. Henderson threw a strike to Williams in the back corner of the endzone, which he leapt up and grabbed to make it 21-3.

But ESJ wasn’t finished. After a Destrehan bad snap was recovered by ESJ in its own territory, Henderson gave his team one last chance for a score – under a heavy rush, he extended a play by scrambling around in the backfield until finding a spot to set up and launch.

He knew who to look for. His Hail Mar was answered by Williams, who outjumped surrounding defenders in the back of the endzone for the touchdown with no time left.

ESJ also scored first half touchdowns on a Reynaldo Young run and a 30-yard Williams catch.
