After a brief battle with cancer, Phyllis Cook Chaney finally lost her struggle and went to her heavenly home on Oct. 17, 2009, at 1:06 p.m.

Preceded in death were her father R.C. Cook formally of LaPlace and her mother Gladys Cook who lived in Paron, Ark.

Phyllis is survived by two children Michael Jones and Michele Jones White of Austin, Texas. Phyllis’s sister, Kay Keefer, is from Ponchatoula, and her brother, Bill Cook is from LaPlace. Phyllis had two grandchildren whom she loved dearly; both DJ and Gregory live in Austin, Texas. Her niece and nephews Buddy Williams, Paula Kay Rome, Billy Cook, and a host of great nieces and nephews will sadly miss her.

Phyllis was employed by Texaco Oil Company for 35 years in the accounting department both in New Orleans and Houston.

Phyllis wanted people to be able to learn from her experience and willed her body to the LSU Medical Center. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Cancer Society in her name.
