No, Destrehan may not be undefeated for a third straight season, but the two-time defending 5A champion Wildcats showed that they’re still a very dangerous team with its 16-6 victory against Dutchtown on Friday night in a District 6-5A game. The Wildcats held a strong Griffin rushing attack to just 53 yards rushing in Dutchtown’s home stadium, and made a big defensive play – Cody Scioneaux’s 27-yard interception return for a score – to put DHS into the driver’s seat. Destrehan coach Stephen Robicheaux has stressed the importance of weekly improvement to a team that largely boast new starters across the board. The litmus test for that improvement likely comes on Friday – with Hahnville next, the Wildcats will likely need their best performance of the season to top their archrivals.
