Each year the LaPlace Wal-Mart selects one school to be the recipient of its effort to assist educators in St. John the Baptist Parish. Ten teachers from Lake Pontchartrain Elementary School were chosen to receive a $100 Wal-Mart gift card.

Principal Margaret Hastings said, “Lake Pontchartrain Elementary has an outstanding staff this year. The teachers represent the dedication and excellence you’ll find in each grade level at LPE from kindergarten through eighth-grade. These teachers offer a quality education to our students throughout the day, along with contributing additional time and service after hours in the areas of extracurricular activities, mentoring, tutoring, academic/athletic programs and technical training. I am extremely proud of my staff.”

Wal-Mart held a small celebration for these teachers near its produce department. The celebration included the presentation of the $100 gift card, a gift bag and cake and soft drinks.
