TEAM OF THE WEEK: Lutcher High School

The switch flipped on for Lutcher down the stretch last season. Its offense put up video game-like numbers en-route to the Superdome, where its defense put forth a record setting performance in a win over Notre Dame to capture the Class 3A title. In LHS coach Tim Detillier’s words – the Bulldogs “have picked up where we left off.” Lutcher moved to Class 4A this season, and will begin district play this week – but the Bulldogs have looked downright scary in non-district play, going 5-0 including a classic win over Hahnville and blowout victories over Dutchtown and, most recently, defending 5A champion Destrehan this past Friday night. Quarterback Gavin Webster has completed 68 percent of his passes for 1,100 yards and 14 touchdowns against three interceptions. He’s also rushed for 492 yards and nine more scores. Jarvis Landry is averaging almost 100 receiving yards per game, and Daniel Taylor averages over eight yards a carry. In short – Class 4A, beware the Bulldogs.
