LAPLACE – Parish officials said Monday they decided to cancel a special meeting Tuesday night to officially swear in former St. John Chief Administrative Officer Pat McTopy as Acting Parish President.

Acting Chief Administrative Officer Buddy Boe said parish officials decided the ceremony was unnecessary, as McTopy had already been sworn in at a private ceremony following former Parish President Bill Hubbard’s resignation on Sept. 24.

“The administration is remaining in place, and there was no need to hold an additional ceremony,” Boe said.

Boe said the St. John Parish Council will set a date for a special election for parish president at the next regular meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 6 p.m.
