HAHNVILLE – A Harahan teen visiting relatives in Des Allemands was booked with 11 counts of simple burglary after he broke into various vehicles in the neighborhood, according to a release from the St. Charles Sheriff’s Office.

The 16-year-old boy, whose name was not released, was staying with family in the Bayou Gauche area last week when the car burglaries took place, said Capt. Pat Yoes, public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office. The break-ins occurred in the early morning hours of Sept. 2.

The teen is accused of burglarizing 11 vehicles in the neighborhood and taking various unidentified items, including a handgun, which he fired before leaving the scene of one of the burglaries.

Yoes said deputies had received a call about shots being fired in the neighborhood, and investigators located the shell casing the next day.

The suspect was arrested later that afternoon and booked into the juvenile detention center. He has since been released into parental custody.

Yoes said all of the stolen property was recovered and returned to the rightful owners.
