‘We salute …’

Each Saturday, L’Observateur will recognize individuals and businesses in the River Parishes who have gone “above and beyond” in their efforts to make this a better place to live, work, play and raise a family.

We believe that an integral part of a community’s wellbeing is an attitude and arena where people who do good things … who work to improve life for others … who try to make a difference … are recognized and saluted.

Because this is a salute to members of the community of the entire River Parishes, we solicit your recommendations for groups or individuals to be considered for inclusion.

This week we salute:

• TEACHERS, ADMINISTRATORS and STAFF, of all schools and school systems in the River Parishes, for the work they do in helping prepare the younger members of our community for the next stage in their respective lives.

• ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH OFFICIALS, on their years-long efforts to gain approval from the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers to construct a new raw water intake at the Edgard water treatment plant. Now that approval has been given the project is moving quickly.

• PELICAN POINT GOLF CLUB, on hosting its second annual “Rally for the Cure” golf tournament to help in the fight against breast cancer. The Gonzales facility raised more than $5,000 to be given to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the Cure.
