LAPLACE — Authorities in St. John are investigating the shooting death of a 25-year-old LaPlace man, who was shot in front of his home Saturday night, said a spokesman for the St. John Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responding to calls about the shooting, which happened around 11:47 p.m. on July 4 in the 1800 block of Tiffany Drive, found the victim, Keith Craig, on a sofa inside his home. He was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, said Sheriff’s Office public information officer Dane Clement. Craig was transported to University Hospital in New Orleans, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries Sunday morning.
Clement said Craig was standing outside his home talking with two other people when multiple gunshots were fired. Investigators are not revealing any details on where the shots came from. Clement said the shooter fled the scene in a vehicle, but no description was available.
Craig suffered wounds to the torso and buttocks, Clement said. The two other people with him, who were not identified in the police report, were not injured when the shots were fired. The two individuals helped Craig get back into his home and then called Sheriff’s Office to report the shooting.
Investigators have no suspects and no motive for the shooting at this time, Clement said. Craig’s homicide is the third for St. John Parish this year. Anyone with information regarding the shooting should call St. John Det. Walter Stevens at 985-652-9513.
