LAPLACE — A LaPlace woman was booked with attempted second-degree murder charges Sunday morning after she attacked another woman with a scalpel following an argument, said a spokesman for the St. John Sheriff’s Office.

Stacey Sylvester, 48, 1532 Delta Road, LaPlace, was apprehended at her home just minutes after the attack, which occurred around 6:47 a.m. Sunday at a home in the 1700 block of Creole Street, said Capt. Dane Clement, public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office. Sylvester is being held at the Sherman Walker Correctional Facility in LaPlace on a $500,000 bond.

Clement said deputies who were called out to the Creole Street address found a 41-year-old woman inside with severe cuts all over her body. He said the woman and Sylvester were arguing when Sylvester began to stab her with the scalpel.

Investigators have not yet determined the nature of the argument or the relationship between the victim and Sylvester.

Clement said when Sylvester was arrested she was still in possession of the scalpel.
