Dennis “Denny” Macdonald, 30, of Ames, Iowa, died at his home. Services are being planned at a later time.

Macdonald was born July 2, 1978, in Ames, the son of Heidi Dippold Hogan. He attended elementary school in Ames before moving to LaPlace, where he graduated from East St. John High School. He then returned to Ames and attended Des Moines Area Community College and Iowa State University. He was a bus driver for CyRide for nine years.

Macdonald enjoyed science fiction fantasy games, reading, traveling with his grandparents (including a trip to Germany in 1985), countless trips in the motor home and several visits to Seattle, his favorite place. He loved working with animals, and he enjoyed volunteering at St. John’s Humane Society in LaPlace.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Heidi and Tim Hogan, of LaPlace, his grandparents, Roland and Renate Dippold, of Ames, his aunt and uncle, Peggy and Tim Vos, of Naperville, Ill., and several relatives in Germany.
