After beginning district play with two losses, Riverside rebounded to score a 67-55 District 10-2A win over Carver in Reserve on Friday night.

Kane Keller scored 23 points and hit six 3-pointers to lead Riverside. Josh Tassin scored 18, and Bobby Smith scored 12.

“Playing on a Friday night, at home, it was a game we knew we had to be really focused for,” said Riverside Coach Ben Wilson. “We needed a win for us to have any breath yet in this district race.”

Riverside (4-19, 1-2) led by seven at halftime. In the third quarter, Riverside outscored Carver 22-10 to open a 49-30 lead entering the fourth quarter. The Rebels led by as many as 24 in the second half.

“We got a lot of stops defensively (in the third quarter),” said Wilson. “We did a great job of sharing the ball and got a lot of great looks from that. We attacked them pretty well and everyone was involved.”

While Keller rained down shots from the outside, Tassin and Smith made their presence known by driving through the lane.

“They did a great job getting to the basket,” Wilson said. “We were pretty balanced in how we got our points.”

Carver was able to battle back in the fourth, cutting the Riverside lead to 10. But the Rebels gathered themselves and closed it out.

“We forced some things and took some silly shots. We haven’t built big leads like that often,” said Wilson. “We just had to remember that we were up 15, not down 15. In the end, we did what we had to do to hold on.”
