ST. ROSE – A three-vehicle wreck on Interstate 310 in St. Charles Parish involving an 18-wheeler claimed the life of a New Orleans man Tuesday, said a spokesman from Louisiana State Police.

Senior Trooper Joseph Piglia, public affairs official for State Police said Joseph Ingolia, 57, was killed after his GMC Yukon struck the side of an 18-wheeler then slammed into a Ford pick-up while Ingolia was traveling northbound on I-310 around 1:18 p.m. Tuesday.

According to a release from State Police, Ingolia was traveling in the right lane when his vehicle veered to the left aAnd struck the 18-wheeler, which did not stop at the time of the impact. Ingolia then re-entered the right lane and hit the Ford truck, driven by Lloyd Schoen, 51, of Ponchatoula. The release said that the rear wheels of Schoen’s vehicle were pushed up onto the cement guardrail.

Piglia said Ingolia was transported to Ochsner Hospital in Kenner, where he was pronounced dead. Schoen suffered minor injuries and refused medical attention from responders on the scene.

Piglia said speed and driver impairment are not considered factors in the accident, but said investigators believe Ingolia may have suffered a medical condition at the time of the crash. An examination is pending.
