The Riverside boys and girls soccer teams each had a date with Central Lafourche on Tuesday, in matches that were rescheduled from Monday afternoon.

Both Rebel teams had a tough go of it — the boys fell 6-0 to the Trojans, while the girls entered the Christmas break with an 8-0 loss.

“Ideally, I’d like to go into the break on a better note, but what can you do?” said Riverside Coach Stephen Millet, who heads both squads. “It was pretty evident early on in both games that (Central Lafourche) would dominate.”

Millet said that the Riverside boys (0-4-2) gave a good effort, but that a win just wasn’t in the cards Tuesday.

“They played hard. The guys exerted every ounce of energy they had. If they can keep this level of effort up, we should be just fine going forward.”

It was the second meeting between the two teams this year, albeit the first came in a preseason scrimmage that Central Lafourche (5-7-2) won 8-0.

The win was the Trojans third straight, after a 9-0 win over Shaw and a 2-0 win over South Lafourche.

He wasn’t as pleased with the effort of the Lady Rebels (3-3-1), whom had only lost once in their last four games before the loss to the Lady Trojans (3-6-3).

“If I knew what it was, it would make things easier. But we came out very flat, for whatever reason,” Millet said. “They did not play anything close to what they’re capable of.”

With a pair of games with McGehee approaching, beginning today at noon, Millet told his team to go into the Christmas holiday and reflect on their goals for the remainder of the season.

“I just asked them to do some soul searching,” he said. “Really think about what you want to do with this season. I do know this, if we play this flat in January, we’ll be in a whole lot of trouble.”
