Karr center Twinisha Tillman scored 28 points as the Cougars handed West St. John it’s second loss of the season, 69-39 in a non-district game in Edgard.

The Rams simply couldn’t stop Tillman or teammate Theresa Francois, who added 20 points. Karr got off to a fast start, outscoring West St. John 27-13 in the first quarter, and effectively slammed the door on the Rams early in the second half.

“We turned it over six times in the first three minutes,” said West St. John Coach Lester Smith. “We were a little rusty after some time off.”

Jailyn Gordon led West St. John with 17 points. Kyla Morris and Shantell Pablo each added nine.

Down by 14 after a quarter, West St. John climbed within striking distance after a 12-4 second quarter run made it 31-25 at halftime.

The Cougars regrouped, and outscored the Rams 25-8 in the third quarter to reestablish control of the game. Karr held West St. John to single digit points in each of the final two quarters.

“We missed shots,” said Smith. “They hit three 3-pointers in a row in that third quarter, and from there the momentum shifted over to them.”

The Lady Rams were scheduled to host Reserve Christian yesterday, and will travel to face the Eagles for the second half of a home-and-home series on Tuesday.
