Champagne

Audrey Hebert Champagne passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at 6:20 a.m. in Jefferson. Beloved wife of Allen Champagne. Mother of Gill Champagne, Barbara Champagne, Wendy Boyce and Tammy Haydel. Daughter of the late Emile and Clarice P. Hebert. Sister of the late Donald and Alvin Hebert. Also survived by 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A native of Paradis and a resident of Ama. Age 81 years.

Visitation and services were held at St. Mark Catholic Church in Ama on Friday, December 19. Interment in St. Charles Cemetery in Luling.

Mire

Robert Rocco Mire, a resident and native of Norco died Friday, December 12, 2008, at his home. He was 60 years old. Graveside Services will be held at a later date. H.C. Alexander Funeral Home of Norco, LA in charge of arrangements, (985) 764-6249.

Montz

Geraldine Montz passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2008, at 9:30 p.m. at River Parishes Hospital. Age 97. A native of Garyville and lifetime resident of St. Charles Parish. She began teaching on a teacher’s certificate from Louisiana State Normal for two years and for 25 years of Saturdays at Loyola University and received her degree in education. Retired school teacher with the St. Charles Parish School Board after 41 years.

Preceded in death by: parents, Henri Samuel and Henriette Keller Montz.

Visitation and services were held on Thursday, December 18, at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Norco. Interment followed at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Cemetery in Taft.

Squire

Shirley Squire, age 54, native of New Orleans and a resident of Fort Smith, Ark., due to Hurricane Katrina, departed this life on Thursday, December 11, 2008. Daughter of Amanda Stevenson, and the late Sidney Stevenson. Mother of Samantha and Samuel Squire. Also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services were held at the Milesville Memorial Church of God in Christ in LaPlace on Friday, December 20.

Staley

Marilyn Schexnayder Staley passed away peacefully on Sunday, Decemeber 7, 2008, in El Paso, Texas. Lynn was born February 13, 1928, to Edgar and Noella Schexnayder in Paulina. She was the fifth of eleven children. She was married to (Ret.) Major Kenneth V. Staley and after his retirement from E.F. Hutton, they settled in Silver City, N.M., for over 20 years. She is survived by 10 of her siblings and eight children, William, Cynthia Sergent (Paul), Eric Staley (Linda) Deborah, Carrie, Hal, Dave and Dale (Kyoko), and 10 grandchildren: Luv, Charm, Elodie, Molly, James, Elizabeth, Veroinque, Talia, Heather, Jeremy and three great-grandchildren.

Interment with her husband at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery. Donations in memory of Marilyn to the Alzhiemers Association and Hospice.

Wallace

Freddie “Slug” Wallace at his residence in Lutcher at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 12, 2008. Son of the late Valentine Wallace and Alice Turner Wallace. Husband of the late Marilyn Washington Wallace. Father of Taschica Hansley and Fredrick Wallace. Father in law of Byron Hansley Sr. and Janeese Ross. Brother of Clarence Wallace and the late Victoria Williams, Philomen Brown, Irene (Madeline) Green, Rosa Brooks, Julia (Mary) James and John Wallace. Grandfather of Vasti and Byron Hansley Jr. Brother in law of Liza Davis, Dorothy Turner, Lucille Johnson, Annie and Herman Robinson, Rose and Robert Gordon Sr., Laura and Stanley Joseph, Pat Washington, Lionel and Karen Washington and the late Cornelius Washington Jr. Also survived by two godchildren Devin Joseph and Rodrick Skinner, numerous nieces, including Cheryl James, nephews, including Derick Washington, Rollin and Samari Davis, Sam James and Certain Wallace, cousins, other relatives and friends. Age 73.

Visitation and services were held at Lutcher Chapel United Methodist Church in Lutcher on Friday, December 19. Inurnment in Golden Wreath Cemetery in Lutcher.
