Ancker

Robert E. Ancker on Sun., December 7, 2008, at 2:00 a.m. Beloved husband of Joan Jackson Ancker. Father of Robert A. Ancker M.D. and wife Robyn M.D. and Diane Ancker Broussard and husband Kenneth. Grandfather of Nadia, Natalie and Nicholas Ancker. He was a Marine Sgt. in the Korean War, a member of the LaPlace VFW and an active member in the Baha’I Faith. Age 75. A native of Brooklyn and a resident of LaPlace for the past 44 years.

Visitation and services were held at Millet-Guidry Funeral Home in LaPlace on Tuesday, December 9. Burial in St. John Memorial Gardens Cemetery in LaPlace.

Mary Bucher Soniat du Fossat in Destrehan on Monday, November 24, 2008, at 1:40 a.m. Beloved wife of the late George E. Soniat du Fossat. Mother of George E. Soniat du Fossat (Wendy), Leslie S. Blanchard (Jeff). Sister of Alex Bucher. Preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters. Grandmother of Craig and Chris Soniat du Fossat and Stephanie Blanchard. Loving aunt of Mary Lee Elston (Jim), Judith Ann Lasseigne (Bob), Gregory Tobin (Laura), Brian Tobin (Stephanie), Hope, Blaze and Hailey Tobin.

Visitation and services were held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Kener on Friday, December 12. Inurnment in Jefferson Memorial Gardens.

Jones

Alvin Jones of New Orleans at Touro Hospital on Thursday, December 4, 2008. Son of the late Ernest Jones and Gertrude Duhe Rogers Jones. Husband of the late Priscilla Mae Batiste Jones. Father of Denise Jones, Alvin Jr., Frederick Jones, Dennis Jones, the late Jeanette J. Gaylor and Jerome Jones. Brother of Phillip Rogers, Shirley Ross, the late Willie Rogers and nine sisters. Grandfather of Shelita Gaylor, Melanie Turner, Lateria Jones, Nia Jones, Frederick Ross, Sean Gaylor, Jerome Gaylor and the late Kevin McKenzie. Also survived by a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Devoted cousin of Dorothy Johnson. Devoted friend of Chester and Jean Lewis. A native of Wallace and a resident of New Orleans. Age 79 years.

Visitation and services were held on Friday, December 12 at the James Chapel B.C. in New Orleans. Interment in Willow Grove Cemetery in Wallace.

Mateja

Palmire “Pat” S. Mateja passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at 8:05 p.m. at St. Charles Parish Hospital in Luling. A native of New Sarpy. She was Catholic. Survivors include: daughter, Paula Mateja Chiasson and her husband, Steven of Destrehan; sisters, Isabelle Zeringue, Clorine Zeringue and Helen Zeringue; brothers, Urban Schexnaydre and his wife, Sandra, and Thomas Schexnaydre and his wife, Diane; and grandchildren, Stephanie and Dylan Chiasson.

Preceded in death by: husband, Steve Mateja; parents, Francois and Marie Clorinne Troxclair Schexnaydre; sisters, Phedelise Zeringue and Dora Zeringue; and brother, Francois E. Schexnaydre.

Visitation on Saturday, December 13, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Destrehan, La. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. from St. Charles Borromeo with Fr. Harry Bugler officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Charles Borromeo Mausoleum.

Montz

Ruffin J. Montz on Monday, December 8, 2008, at 10:35 a.m. Beloved husband of the late Marie Loupe Montz. Father of Jimmie Montz and wife Cathy, JoAnn Jacob and husband Wayne, Charlene (Penny) Triche and husband Barry and Cynthia (Cindy) Terrio and husband Peter. Also survived by 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Son of the late Eddie and Bertha Hymel Montz. Brother of Edward (Za) Montz, Ruth Levet, the late Helmuth, Harry and Eddie Montz, Florence Vicknair, Ruby Roussel and Evelyn Graungard. Age 92 years. A native of Edgard and a resident of Reserve for the past 81 years.

Visitation and services were held at St. Peter Catholic Church in Reserve on Friday, December 12. Burial in St. Peter Cemetery in Reserve.

Songy

Donald J. Songy on Sunday, December 7, 2008, departed this life. He is survived by one sister, Eva Songy Duhe, two brothers Malcolm (Angela) Songy, Oliver (Sedonia) Songy Jr. and one brother-in-law Roy Keller of Reserve, along with a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Oliver and Theresa Barre Songy, three sisters Lorrita Songy, Loretta Songy Stewart and Olivia Songy Keller, two brothers-in-law Walter Stewart and Edmond Duhe Sr.

A Catholic Mass was held at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Reserve on Friday, December 12. Interment in Mt. Zion Travelers Cemetery.

Taylor

Kelly Taylor, 33, on Monday, December 8, 2008 at River Parishes Hospital. The Montz native is the beloved wife of Kevin Taylor, mother of Ty Taylor, daughter of Marsha Milton Thomas and Victor Thomas, sister of Brandon Thomas, Gerard Milton. Funeral services were held Friday, December 12 at Covenant Church in Destrehan. Interment at St. Peter Catholic Church Cemetery in Reserve.

Valentine

Anthony Farrell Valentine Sr. on Saturday, November 29, 2008, in Austin, Texas. Son of the late Joseph Ferdinand and Myrtle Keller Valentine. Father of Anthony (Tony) Jr., Tami V. Allen, Terrance, Aaron, Bryan and Antoinette Valentine. Beloved brother of Joseph Frederick Valentine. Also survived by devoted friends, Sylvia Costa, Sue Arledge, Charlie Taylor and Everage Tuircuit Jr. and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends. Age 69 years. A native of Reserve and a resident of Austin, Texas.

Visitation and services were held at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Reserve on Thursday, December 11. Interment in St Peter Cemetery in Reserve.

Vinet

Patricia Ann Vinet, age 59, entered into eternal rest on Monday, December 8, 2008. She leaves to cherish her most precious memories her loving husband, Paris Vinet Sr.; three children: Ellen, Lisa and Christopher Vinet; three stepchildren: Paris Jr., Keith and Kenney Vinet; and a host of grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Services were held on Friday, December 12, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in LaPlace. Burial will be private.
