GARYVILLE — Authorities with State Police say that a two-vehicle crash on La. 44 near DuPont Road claimed the life of a LaPlace man early Sunday morning.

Senior Trooper Joseph Piglia, spokesman for Louisiana State Police, said Dwight M. Boe, 47 suffered fatal injuries when his 1993 Ford F-150 pickup struck a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu as the vehicles traveled in opposite directions along La. 44. Piglia said the accident occurred sometime around 5:35 a.m. Sunday.

According to a report on the accident, Boe was traveling westbound on La. 44 when his vehicle veered into the eastbound lane and struck the Chevy Malibu, driven by 26-year-old Candice Singleton of Reserve, head on.

Piglia said Boe was transported to St. James Hospital for medical attention and later transferred to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital where his condition worsened. He said Boe finally succumbed to his injuries sometime on Monday.

Piglia said Singleton was transported to River Parishes Hospital with minor injuries. A passenger in the Chevrolet, Myrtis Singleton, was also transported to River Parishes Hospital with moderate injuries.

Piglia said speed and foggy conditions at the time of the crash are considered factors in the accident. He said driver impairment is not considered a factor. Neither Boe nor Singleton had seatbelts on at the time of the crash.

Trooper Brandon Beaudoin is continuing the investigation.
