Library to be closed this weekend
The Central Library in LaPlace will be closed on Saturday, October 18, 2008 to accommodate the annual Andouille Festival and prevent congestion.
The Library apologizes for the inconvenience this may cause the patrons but encourages them to utilize one of the library branches. The Saturday hours of the Reserve branch are 8:30am — 12:30 and 1:30-5:30; Edgard and Garyville hours are 8:30-12:30. Please visit a library branch.
Upcoming Book Signing
LaPlace writer, Judy Creekmore will sign ‘Celebrating 200 Years of River Parishes’ History’ 8 a.m. – 12 noon on Saturday, October 25 at the German Coast Farmers Market, Ormond Plantation, 13786 River Road, Destrehan.
Celebrating 200 Years of River Parishes’ History offers brief glimpses of events that shaped our community and the efforts of American Indian, German, French, Spanish, African and Italian forebears who defied the environment and their differences in race, religion and culture to make the River Parishes a vital part of current Louisiana.
Krewe DuMonde to hold meeting
Krewe DuMonde will hold its first meeting for riders, groups, floats and other entries. The meeting will be held Wendesday, October 15 at 6 p.m. in Room B at the Laplace Public Library.
Diamond Subdivision elects officers
Current and former members of Norco’s Diamond Subdivision recently held a meeting to elect officers and begin making plans for 2009.

Fire Safety/Prenvention Program
In conjunction with National Fire Safety Week, the Reserve branch of St. John the Baptist Parish Library will host a fire safety/prevention program for children ages 2-5 years. The program, will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2008 at 10:00 a.m., and will consist of fire safety tips from members of the Reserve Fire department. The children will be allowed to tour a fire truck. The public is invited to attend this free, informative and entertaining program.
