Sixty-four Hurst student volunteers spent their Saturday morning participating in the International Coastal Clean-up collecting loads of junk and 28 full bags of trash.
Students found everything from car parts to air conditioner pressure gauges dumped in the park area. This is the ninth year that the Hurst Wetland watchers group has hosted the event for St. Charles Parish.
The event is sponsored by Toyota, the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation and Entergy. Chris Brantley with the Corps of Engineers also took time out to share facts about the importance of the aquatic plants, showing students how to identify some of the most common plants found in the spillway.
Jambalaya and Hot Dogs were provided by Chef Eds for all the volunteers.
