Arie

Betty Ruth (St. John) Arie, age 72, died Wednesday, September 24, 2008, at the White River Medical Center in Batesville, Ark.  She was born April 10, 1936, at Hoxie, Ark., to Leonard Otto and Velva (Riggs) St. John. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 25 years, Needham L. Arie, one sister Juanita Rudick and one niece Teresa Rudick.

Survivors include on son Billy Joe Lester Arie Sr. and wife Pamlia of LaPlace, one daughter Betty Joan Odell Head and husband Lewis of Cave City, three brothers Sandford “Mike” St. John of Batesville, Leonard St. John and Tommy St. John both of Cave City, a brother-in-law Gene Rudick, two sisters Lavada Coles of Batesville and Lydia Rudick of Cave City, three grandchildren Billy Joe Lester Arie Jr. of Batesville, Brittiune Joesph-Lynn McClure and Benjamin Jean-Luc Arie both of LaPlace, and several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will begin Saturday, September 27, 2008 at 3:00 p.m at the Cave Creek Church of God located in the Cave Creek Community with Bro. Eric Downs and Bro. Justin Clark officiating.  Burial will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens located north of Batesville with arrangements by Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.

Deselle

On September 24, 2008 God whispered in Marie O. Desselle’s ear to come on home as she slept. She recently resided in Baton Rouge, but was a native resident of Garyville. Marie will be sadly missed by her two sons a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters, brothers and extended family and friends.

Services will be held Monday, September 29, at St. Hubert’s Catholic Church in Garyville. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Dicharry

Lisa “Mere-Mere” Cohen Dicharry, a retired Human Resources Director, was entrusted to God’s loving care on Saturday, September 20, 2008, in Lutcher. She was 57 years old. A native and resident of Paulina. Daughter of the late Anita and Robert Cohen. Loving wife of Lloyd Dicharry Jr. for over 39 years. Devoted mother of Dawn D. Martin, Dorrie D. Oubre and Darcy D. St. Pierre. Sister of Robert Cohen Jr. and David Cohen both of Waveland, Miss., and Jackie C. Rung of New Orleans. Devoted grandmother of Bethany Oubre, Andrew Oubre, Adrian Oubre, Kailee Martin, Ethan St. Pierre, Eli St. Pierre and Eric St. Pierre. She was PSR teacher for St. Joseph Catholic Church, a substitute teacher at Chanel Interparochial School, a volunteer and board member of the Chanel Maintenance Committee and member of the Bell Choir for the school masses.

Services were held Thursday, September 25, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Paulina. Entombment followed in the Church Mausoleum.

Hall

Carl Michael Hall, 24, died September 23, 2008.  A native and resident of LaPlace, he was the youngest son of Marie hall and Carl Frank. He was a recent graduate of the La. State Poolice Training Academy and served his community as a sheriff’s deputy. He was stepson of Debra Frank, fiancé of Stephanie Demelo, father of Antonio Mycel and Adrian Michael, brother of Brandon Hall and Brandi Frank, uncle of A’Jeya, A’Jyah and Ariana, grandson of Ethel Forest and Joseph Hall, great-grandson of Carrie Forest, Ceclie Hall and George Forest, Will Hall, Henry Wolfe and Lithia Wolfe.

Services will be held Saturday, September 27, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Reserve. Visitation at the church after 9 a.m. Interment at St. Peter Catholic Church Cemetery in Reserve.

Hovland

Arlo Dean “Red” Hovland on Friday September 19, 2008, at 8:42 p.m. Beloved husband of Ruth Cannon Hovland. Father of Cathy Hovland Winters. Grandfather of Mackenzie Dean Winters. Brother of Neva Hovland Lien. Brother-in-law of Dorothy Cannon Heiss. Age 89 Years. A native of Fertile, Iowa, and a resident of LaPlace for the past 22 years.

Visitation was held at Millet-Guidry Funeral Home in LaPlace on Monday, September 22.

Laiche

Marie Amelia Boe’ Laiche on Wednesday, September 17, 2008, at 10:45 a.m. Beloved wife of Irvin “Tutone” Laiche for 59 years. Devoted mother of Nancy Loupe and fiancee Mike Lemoine. Grandmother of Brandon Loupe and fiancée Kelley Graves and Faith L. Compton and husband Tommy. Great-grandmother of Brennen, Sloane and Isabella Loupe and Kyleigh Graves. Daughter of the late Jean Baptiste and Marie Klibert Boe’. Sister of O’Neil, John and Leonard Boe’, Rita Bonadona, Laura Hutchinson and the late Jim Boe’ and Hilda Crumpton. She will be sadly missed by loving nieces, nephews and many friends. Age 87. A native of Vacherie and a resident of Norco for the past 59 years.

Services were on Saturday, September 20,  at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norco. Burial in St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery in Destrehan.

Levens

John Elsworth Levens, 64, died Friday, September 19, 2008. The Orange, N.J., native and Prairieville resident is survived by wife Kathleen Bourgeois Levens, sons Michael Levens and Ryan Levens, daughter Megan Dupuy, brother William Levens, sister Dolores Levens and grandchildren Christopher, Matthew and IIsabella Levens.

Preceded in death by parents Henry and Mary Levens, brother Charles Levens and sister Margaret Croghan.

Services were held Tuesday, September 23, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Paulina. Entombment followed in St. Joseph Catholic Church Mausoleum.

Lotz

Gerard “Jerry” Lotz USMC, retired after 24 years of service, passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2008, at 12:05 a.m. Beloved husband of Pauline “Polly” Lotz. Father of Gerard Lotz II, Beth Ann Lotz, Robin Myers and Jerrie Jo Downey. Step-father of Mary Smith and John Merklein. Also survived by eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Son of the late Frederick Sr. and Josephine Lotz. Brother of the late Louis and Frederick Lotz Jr., Josephine Palazola and America Montalbano. Brother-in-law of Agnes Lotz. Also survived by nieces and nephews.  Age 76. A native of New Orleans and a resident of LaPlace for the past 32 years.

Visitation and services were held at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church in LaPlace on Saturday, September 20. Burial in St. John Memorial Gardens Cemetery in LaPlace.

Montz

Adamae Petite Montz, a retired secretary with Destrehan High School, passed away Saturday, September 20, 2008. She was 79 and a native of Ascension Parish. Wife of the late Floyd J. Montz; mother of Susan Davis and husband Ted, Peggy Simon and husband Chipper, and Joan Bartholomew and husband Mel; grandmother of six grandchildren who she will be sadly missed by, Kelli Smith and husband Brian, Robbi Simon, Trey Simon, Mel Bartholomew, Jennifer Bartholomew, and Marc Bartholomew; great-grandmother of Jacob and Romeo; sister of Rosie Leitz, Sonnie Eberhart, and the late Betty Barraco; step-sister of the late Doot Petite; daughter of the late Paul and Lena Petite.

Visitation and services were held at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church of Destrehan on Tuesday, Sept. 23. Entombment followed in the church mausoleum.

Trosclair

Myrtis Poche Trosclair on Wednesday, September 17, 2008, at 12:26 p.m. Beloved wife of the late Nelson Trosclair Sr. Mother of Alice Palermo and husband Vince, Susan Madere and husband Gus, Nelson Trosclair Jr. and the late Betty Trosclair. Also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Daughter of the late Rene and Ann Poche. Age 78. A native of Paulina and a resident of Garyville for the past 60 years.

Visitation and services were held at Millet-Guidry Funeral Home in LaPlace on Friday, September 19. Burial in St. Peter Cemetery in Reserve.
