LAPLACE – Authorities in St. John are trying to determine a motive in a shooting in LaPlace Saturday morning that left a Garyville man hospitalized with injuries.
Maj. Mike Tregre, public information officer for the St. John Sheriff’s Office, said 28-year-old Victor Sanders and another unidentified man were standing on the corner of Dominican Drive and Linda Court in LaPlace when an unidentified vehicle pulled up in front of them. Tregre said someone in the vehicle opened fire on the two men, and Sanders sustained gunshot wounds to his left arm and upper left side. Investigators have no information on the other man who was at the scene during the shooting.
According to a report on the shooting, the incident occurred around 9:20 a.m. Saturday. When deputies arrived on the scene, they found Sanders sitting in a car with another friend, who was not identified. Tregre said Sanders was transported to University Hospital in New Orleans where he is listed in Stable condition.
Tregre said detectives have identified a suspect in this case and are attempting to verify a motive. He said it appears that Sanders and the suspect know each other, but authorities do not know anything more at this time. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact the St. John Sheriff’s Office at 652-6338. The case officer is Detective Christie Murden.
