After finishing the regular season with a record of 11-1-1 and entering the postseason as the top seed, the Tri-Parish Pirates notched their 10th Buddy Lawson League championship in 13 years with a 9-5 victory over the Kenner Cardinals.

Harold Williams hit a home run to kick start the offense as the Pirates defeated the Cardinals for the second time in a championship double-header on Sunday.

The Pirates won the first game over Kenner, 22-2.

“We played great as a team and stayed together in our tough games,” said Coach Louis Gardner. “We had an angel in the sky watching over us in Jonathan Smith, who passed away last year. This one was for him.”

Pitcher Herbert Carter notched both wins on Sunday, just as he has in the Pirates 17 total victories this season.

In the first game, Mervin Williams, Howard Farmer, Charles Stirgus, and Harold Williams all hit home runs as their team coasted to victory.

The Pirates had to win a semifinal game with the Shrewsbury Challengers earlier on Sunday to reach the championship doubleheader. It took an 8-4 victory to advance. Jada Robertson, Derwin Mealey, and Farmar each went 2-for-3, including a home run by Farmar. Darius Scott also hit a home run.
